Does that make her Peach? I personally think she is more like Yoshi:
Did I have a good time? Yes! Did I learn anything? No! Was there a story to this movie? I don’t think so.
I had fun with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, although I don’t think I would watch it again. It was exciting in the aspect of, “woah look who it is!” Many different Nintendo characters appeared throughout the film. Almost too many. At some points, it felt like things were just happening so you could get a cameo appearance. It felt like there was more screen time for everyone else than there was for the Mario characters.
It is kind of hard to have a story when the whole movie is random things happening. I couldn’t tell you what the plot was, but I could tell you the hazelnut-stuffed churros I had while watching the movie were delicious. Within the randomness of it all, I felt like each frame was about 2 seconds long. It keeps the story from having any time to breathe. Basic science would suggest that the fast-paced nature of the story keeps children’s attention for longer. That made the viewing experience as an adult a bit overstimulating, and honestly, it made me feel bored more easily because there was nothing to follow. Galaxy was made for the CoComelon kids.
Yoshi is by far my favorite character in the movie. He has this epic backstory where he is walking through New York City, eating things as Yoshi does! He then sees the dog from the first movie and eats him! So, now the dog is in an egg, which needed to happen to that dog. I love that during the backstory, you see Yoshi progressively getting chiller; more stickers on his shell, hat backward, and just not caring about what everyone else thinks about this dinosaur walking through New York. Yoshi’s backstory had more of a story than the whole movie. This was definitely my favorite part of the movie.
I really enjoyed the 2023 predecessor and find myself putting it on as a background movie quite often. I enjoy the story and the fun characters. Though there are way more fun characters in this one, they do not have enough screen time; not really much story for them. In The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it seemed more like a Peach movie, which sucked. This one seemed more like a Mario Bros movie! They, like, actually showed up more.
Now, for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie… what galaxy? Like, yeah, of course, they were out in space for a bit to get to the other planets, but not much? Also, they didn’t travel to other planets using the lumas, like in the game, which is sad. One time, Peach launched through the star, but other than that one time, they all took ships? I needed more star action, I guess.
I enjoyed my time seeing this movie! I had the best churros ever while watching it, and I love colorful movies, but I can’t really say it is something I will watch again. Now, if I can watch the Yoshi backstory, only then would I be sold. There needs to be a Yoshi movie! Overall, fun experience, but for the movie itself, I honestly couldn’t care less. I feel like my life hasn’t changed at all from watching that movie. The only thing that changed is that I will be getting those churros every time I go to the movies.
